Helicobacter pylori

CLIA is a revolutionary and high-sensitive immunodiagnostic technique, that represents a huge step in diagnosis of both infectious and non-infectious diseases.

H.pylori is a gram-negative, flagellated, helical bacterium which penetrates the mucous lining of the stomach, helped by its flagella, and thereby establish infection. It is estimated that over the 50% of population worldwide have H.pylori. Many individuals remain asymptomatic but have a higher predisposal for developing gastrointestinal diseases like gastritis, peptic ulcer and gastric carcinoma. In fact, H.pylori causes more than 90% of duodenal ulcers and up to 80% of gastric ulcers.  If clinical manifestations appear, they include ache or burning pain in stomach, nausea, loss of appetite and frequent burping and bloating. Main ways of transmission include oral-oral, fecal-oral and ingestion of contaminated water.

H.pylori antimicrobial resistance is critically increasing. In fact, in 2018, the WHO listed H.pylori as a high priority pathogen for the research and discovery of new drugs and treatments.

CerTest Biotec CLIA detects specific proteins from H.pylori, present in stool samples of patients.
